Ramses II, was the third pharaoh of the XIX Dynasty of Egypt, who ruled for 66 years, from 1279 a. C. until 1213 a. C. he is often remembered as the greatest and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom, which in turn is the peak period of Ancient Egypt.
He was buried in a KV7 tomb in the Valley of the Kings near Thebes, but his body was later transferred to a royal mummy cache where it was discovered in 1881. His mummy has until recently been on display in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. and, from 2021, in the new Grand Egyptian Museum in the same city.
