This weird insect may look like something straight out of a sci-fi movie but it's in fact very real!

This is a species of arctiine (tiger) moth native to South East Asia and Australia. The specimen here is a male in mating season, with its coremata (scent organs) showing.
This species has a red
abdomen (rarely yellow), white hindwings and brown forewings, with a dark
streak along them, and a wingspan of 4 cm. Males have four large eversible
coremata which are usually concealed within their abdomen. When inflated by air
pressure or blood pressure, the coremata can exceed the length of the abdomen.
These hairy, tentacles-like organs are covered in pheromones to attract mates
and at the same time the strong scent can deter predators.
